So, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional, which means that same-sex couples who are legally married in their own states can now receive federal benefits.
Which, basically, boils down to this: If two consenting adults love each other and decide to commit their lives to each other, they will now receive equal protection under federal law. And that is a fantastic, amazing thing. I’m so, so proud that we’ve reached this point. *happy tears*
