Greetings, friends. As I’m sure you’ve all been desperately wondering what I’ve been up to as of late, I’ve come here today to alleviate your suffering via a gif-filled blog post. Hurrah!
To summarize the past month in the most succinct way possible:
It’s been, to put it lightly, a bit of a crazy month, with financial troubles, medical madness, random altercations with crazy people on public transportation, sleep deprivation due to summer heat and a very loud and bored feline roommate, and, of course, the requisite entropy-fueled destruction of my personal belongings.
AND JON STEWART’S LAST DAY ON THE DAILY SHOW IS NEXT WEEK I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S ALMOST HERE ALREADY HOW WILL I COPE WHEN MY DREAMS OF HIM INTERVIEWING ME ABOUT MY AWARD-WINNING LITERARY LEGACY HAVE BEEN IRREVOCABLY SHATTERED??
But, all things considered, I think I’m actually doing pretty well. I’ve been getting a lot of writing done, and Book II of Chosen is currently at around 53,000 words, meaning it’s passed the all-important 50,000-word milestone and the story is moving ever closer to the Thrilling Conclusion™.
The book has reached that point where the characters are essentially deciding the plot for themselves with very little input from me, which is a great place to be – but also a bit of a strange one. For example, a few things have occurred in recent pages that I didn’t see coming at all, and unfortunately, the majority of those things have resulted in additional suffering for my poor main characters. And before anyone puts in a worried call to Character Protective Services, I swear that I never specifically set out to torture my characters, it just always seems to turn out that way.
In any case, I’m excited to see where the story ends up going. I have a general idea of the plot (and since it’s technically set around 20 years prior to Book I, I obviously know where the characters will eventually end up), but it’s moving along with its own momentum now, so I just have to follow it and see what happens. The same thing happened with Book I, actually – I had a very set idea of what was going to happen, and then the characters said, “NOPE! :D” and did something entirely different. Cheeky bastards.
Anyway. It’s Saturday morning and I have tea to drink and a Fuji apple to eat, so I’d better wrap this up and get to it. (There are also a bunch of chores and errands I need to do, but I shall entrust those into the capable hands of Future Me.)
Wishing you all a very pleasant Saturday, and what the hell, wishing myself one, too.
